What is a Giclée?
Pronounced (zhee-clay),Giclée is the French word for spurt or squirt. The Giclées printing process creates extremely small drops, approximately 15 microns wide or one-tenth the width of a human hair. The drops leave the nozzle at a rate of approximately one million drops per second, traveling at more than 85 miles per hour. Although each drop exits the print head the same size, the drop size is changed through the diversion process. When these larger drops reach the canvas, it provides greater penetration and better color saturation. This exacting control contributes to the Giclée's superiority in its ability to honor the original art.
Our
Giclées are printed on artists canvas using archival pigment
based inks, museum wrapped or gallery wrapped on
wood stretcher bars, and protected by a UV blocking
coating that helps prevent moisture damage and fading
for a lifetime and more. (We insist that our prints are sprayed with two coats of Bulldog Ultra, which has very high resistance to ultraviolet light, blocking 99% UV light transmission.) Museum wrapping means the
canvas is mounted on stretcher bars and stapled
on the back, not on the sides. Gallery wrapping
means the image color extends around the sides and
the stretcher bars are
1 1/2 inch thick rather than
the standard 3/4 inch thick. |
